“ This is a very cute and quiet bakery. I am so happy we have one in the inner loop now. There are fresh baked goods every day and they are quite tasty. The service is wonderful. I will definitely be back. ”

“ Yayyy, one of Chinatown's best bakeries has made its way into the inner loop! Although the selection of baked goods at this location is not as big as the one in Bellaire, there's an actual seating area, and they also sell bento boxes and fruit teas/boba... For those never introduced to Asian bakeries, Taiwanese breads are fluffy, sweet, a little heartier than the delicate European influenced Korean breads you find at HMart, and they are so delicious! :D There are also savory versions like ham and cheese, sandwiches, garlic varieties, etc. if you don't have a sweet tooth. When you walk in, the bakery is on the left and the seating area is to the right. There is a tray with tongs so that you can walk around and pile your goodies on the tray, or you can just grab them now with your paws because all the breads are now individually packaged in plastic. They have petite cakes (cheesecakes, fluffy Asian whipped cream cakes), donuts, and Taiwanese pineapple cakes (like a shortbread cookie pastry with sweet filling inside) near the checkout counter. They take credit card here, whoo hoo! The actual breads are $3-5 a piece and are just as yummy as the ones in the other location. The biggest downside would be the markedly increase in prices, but I guess that's what happens when the store is in the actual city. There's a small parking lot in front but probably only for 7 or so cars. It was nice to sit down at Kamalan to enjoy a post-workout treat, and the seating area was quiet-- probably a good place to study as well! I'll come again when the cravings hit and I can't make the journey west to Chinatown! ”

“ Wow I didn't realize they opened a Kamalan Bakery on this side of town! Drove by and had to stop in when I saw it! We came early on a Saturday morning and they were still serving breakfast! They had a few pastries out but it looked like the majority of the breads wouldn't be ready until later in the day. Picked up some coffee Swiss rolls (strong coffee flavor - I loved it), egg tarts (they had both traditional and Portuguese style), some coconut bread, some bbq pork buns, and apple turnovers! Everything was fresh - so fresh the lady didn't want to to seal the bags cause she didn't want to steam to make the pastries soggy! They have a soft serve machine for the summer, they serve bentos for lunch, and have plans to offer Vietnamese sandwiches as well! Excited to come back and check out what else they have to offer! ”

“ I'm so glad there's a location inside the loop now! I recently got a pandan cake from the bellaire location for my parents anniversary that was a huge hit. Today, I went for the freshly baked breads and pastries. I got the custard bread, red bean bun, pandan cupcake, hot dog bread, and a Portugal egg tart. Every thing was tasty-it tasted the same as the items I would get in bellaire. This location is MUCH bigger than the bellaire location and they also have a food menu as well. I'll have to come back to try those food items. They also have their own parking lot so come and check them out if you've never been. Employees are super friendly as well! ”

“ Visited again this weekend. Same result, different day. Vast selection of baked goods for every taste craving. The "Fresh Cheesecakes" happened to come out of the oven while I was there, so I had to be among the first to get a freshly made and still hot Cheesecake. The packaging is so impressive and the Cheesecake is delicious. Of course; I had to buy a few more personal favorites, the croissants and Pumpkin Bread. ”

“ So this is a new bakery in Montrose where Avalon Wine Bar used to be. In my opinion (and yes I'm biased as I live VERY close by), this is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. They have recently opened so keep that in mind in that they are learning their footing and learning the neighborhood/clientele. I came in on a Tuesday morning looking for something to nosh on while also completing some work as I work from home and need a change of environment. I was kindly greeted by Linh who answered all of my questions and gave me some great recommendations. I ordered an Americano coffee, Pineapple cake, and one of their donuts. Everything was really good. The coffee was basically just coffee (they are awaiting their drip coffee machine so they just have specialty coffees right now). However, and this is the reason to come, their bakery items are simply delicious. The donut was light and sweet (not overwhelming and dense). The pineapple cake was something different for me, but I really enjoyed it and will definitely order it again. The cafe is SUPER clean and quiet. Great for working, networking with colleagues and friends, or even a good place to conduct an interview. They play music which is calming and not too loud. There are also TVs all around that you can request to be changed to a specific channel. There is also free WiFi that you can connect to very easily. Did I mention how CLEAN the place is!?! I would love to see this business thrive. They aren't just a bakery. They also offer food options like Bento Boxes, Fried Rice, Etc. They also have shaved ice coming soon for the hot summer nights. Try out Kamala Bakery on Westheimer... you won't be disappointed. BTW, I would have posted a pic of my items but I enjoyed them so quickly I forgot to take a pic! Oops! Update: The folks brought me out some of their fried cream cheese which is a new menu item. Probably not something I would normally order, but after trying it, I would definitely order it again. Rich, but wouldn't you expect it to be?! So good, try it and get adventurous!!! ”

“ Bringing a little bit of Taiwan to Midtown! Great selection of Taiwanese breads and pastries to choose from. My favorites are the red bean bao and the naisu bao. You can actually taste the red bean flavor in the red bean paste (contrary to other bakeries where their red bean flavor gets overpowered with sugar). Their naisu bao is filled with milk custard crumble (whereas other places are skimpy with the filling). Their cakes are really pretty as well. Best of all there's also tons of seating for people to sit and enjoy their bread. ”
